It was a back and forth battle the entire first half between the Sartell Sabres and Brainerd Warriors JV teams. Brainerd got out to an early lead by hitting some big threes. Sartell clamped down on defense and chipped away, and were able to gain a narrow 2-point edge at halftime. The second half was tight for a chunk of it, and then the Sabres were able to get some key turnovers, share the ball, and make several big shots both inside and outside. Sartell also shot the ball well from the free throw line (8-10), and was patient enough on the offensive end to use the clock up (which is huge against a team that can get hot from the three-point line in a hurry). This was Sartell’s best overall performance to date, beating a very solid Brainerd team that won the first matchup by 20 points. It was a great display of improvement. These young men are working hard everyday, playing together, being great teammates, and pushing each other to be the best team we can be. Our goal is to keep improving everyday. The next challenge is a rematch against Bemidji on Thursday night at home (the first matchup was a very close game).
