A windy night and physical play from visiting Fergus Falls kept Sartell’s attack at bay for much of the match but a strong finish and flurry of goals from sophomore Chloe Turner ultimately gave the home side an impressive first win of the 2020 season. The Sabres appeared to strike early in the 2nd minute when Sophie Speckhard pushed a loose ball in the box passed the Otter goalkeeper as Christa Meyer was fouled making a run into the box but the official declined to allow the advantage, calling back the goal and awarding a penalty kick instead, which was ultimately saved. Sartell continued to press and were rewarded in the 3rd minute with the early 1-0 lead on a goal from Christa Meyer as she beat the keeper to a through ball at the top of the box and calmly slotted a shot far post from the right side. Sartell doubled the lead in the 20th minute when Chloe Turner broke through the back line and beat the goalkeeper to the near post in what proved to be the game winner and the first of four goals for Turner. Sartell took a 2-0 lead into the half. The second half saw the Sabres strike early again with a goal in the 48th minute by Sophie Speckhard. The Sabres earned a second penalty in the 60th minute which was again saved by the Otter goalkeeper and the attack went flat for the next 20 minutes and Fergus Falls looked dangerous on multiple occasions, ultimately scoring from a corner kick in the 65th minute. The Otters appeared to be on the verge of making a match of the final 15 minutes but the Sabres offense found its spark scoring four times in the final ten minutes. In the 70th minute Kendal Coffin’s set piece into the box deflected off an Otter defender and into the goal to open the scoring spree and then Chloe Turner exploded for three goals in 8 eight minutes to give the Sabres a 7-1 win. Turner finished with 4 goals on the night. Chloe Swanson made 10 saves in goal and added an assist. Ella Simmons, Bella Zerafa, and Claire Quinn also added assists. The Sabres are back on the road Tuesday night looking to keep their momentum going in Rocori with a 5:30pm start.
