It was another tight game for the Sabres and Lumberjacks per usual. The first half was very close all the way. Sartell hit a buzzer beater to shorten the deficit to 2 points at halftime. In the second half, Bemidji started running away with the lead. At about the 9:30 mark, Bemidji was up 45-30. Sartell put the pressure on and started to chip away. They shrunk the lead to 9 points, and then the Sabres and the Jacks traded buckets for a few minutes. Sartell was then able to force some turnovers and convert on the other end to eventually tie the game with a couple minutes left with a big 3. At the end of regulation the game ended up tied. In overtime, Sartell made a 2 point basket to take the lead. Bemidji hit on two free throws to tie it back up. Sartell eventually made a free throw to take the narrow one point lead. In the closing seconds, Bemidji drew a foul, and got sent to the line with a chance to take the lead. Both free throws were missed. The Jacks got the offensive rebound and missed on a jumper, to end the very exciting game. It wasn’t a perfect game for the Sabres. But they showed a ton of heart, perseverance, grit, and positive mindset. Everyone stayed positive and held the belief that a comeback was very much within reach. This enabled for it to become a reality. I’m very proud of those character traits that were displayed by these young men during the game in the face of unfavorable circumstances. Well done players!
