The pool was fast at the U of M aquatic center on Friday and Saturday as the Sabres competed in the MSHSL state championships on Saturday. The championship weekend saw four Sabre records fall as another impressive Sartell squad swam at the U. Here is a recap of the weekends highlights.

Prelims on Friday:
The medley relay of (Bjork, Sathre, Jesperson, and Zhang) qualified 5th with a 1:39.21

200 Free: Super Cooper Larson finished strong and qualified in 8th with a 1:46.83.

200 IM: Captain Mack Sathre was awesome setting a school record of 1:55.19 and qualifying 4th going into the finals

50 Free: Brannon Bjork was just touched out of the finals with a 17th place finish at :22.57

100 Fly: Captain Eli Lawson qualified in 15th and will swim again in the consolation finals with a time of :56.28

100 Free: Super Cooper Larson dropped .15 seconds to place 11th in the prelims and qualified for the consolation finals on Saturday.

500 Free: Sophomore Jack Thomas placed 19th in the prelims with a solid 5:05.64.

200 Free Relay: The speedy relay of (Jesperson, Larson, Zhang, and Sathre) qualified 6th in the finals with a 1:28.29 time.

100 Backstroke: Brannon Bjork finished 12th with a :55.31making the consolation final.

100 Breastroke: Captain Mack Sathre was back in record breaking mode swimming a :58.77 to best his own school record set in the section meet a week ago.

400 Free Relay: The relay of (Peterson, Jesperson, Carter Larson, and Zhang) placed 13th with a solid 3:22.58.

The Finals on Saturday:

The crowd was rocking as the Sabre medley relay (Bjork, Sathre, Jesperson, Larson) came out of lane 2 and grabbed the second place medal with authority finishing almost a second in front of the field. They smashed the existing school record by a half second and swam one of the fastest public school times in class A history in the process.

200 Free: Cooper Larson swam to an 8th place all state finish in the event after an exhausting leg in the medley relay. Way to go Cooper!

200 IM: Mack Sathre had to recover quickly as he fought for a 4th place all state finish in the tough event. Great work, Mack!

100 Fly: Eli Lawson completed his career goal of making it to state in an individual event and put some frosting on it by making the finals. He placed 16th overall. Amazing!

100 Free: Cooper Larson swam a life best in the final placing 11th with a :48.61. Gutsy swim Cooper!

200 Free Relay: The team of (Bjork, Larson, Jesperson, Sathre) swam to an all state 5th place finish and a new school record, 1:27.05 in a tightly contested championship heat. Just 6 tenths out of second place the Sabres were outstanding in the event!

100 Back: An exhausted Brannon Bjork swam to a 16th place finish going back to back out of the 200 Free Relay into the backstroke.

100 Breastroke: Captain Mack Sathre was back in the water again cranking to a 5th place all state finish. He capped off a fantastic high school career becoming the most versatile and fastest all around swimmer in Sartell St. Stephen history. Outstanding!

400 Free Relay: The team of (Peterson, Jesperson, Carter Larson, Zhang) placed 13th with wonderful swims for each of the relay members over the two days. Great work Sabres!
